Five people have been killed, including four members of a New Mexico family, in a late-night collision on a rural road in the Texas Panhandle.
Texas Department of Public Safety Senior Trooper Chris Ray says 30-year-old Ryan Painter of Corpus Christi died when his pickup crossed the center line shortly before midnight Saturday north of Vega and struck an oncoming Chevy van.
The van was carrying 43-year-old Louis David Torres Sr.; his wife, 43-year-old Dalila Torres; a 20-year-old woman; 14-year-old boy; and 10-year-old girl. Only the boy survived. He was in critical condition Monday at a Lubbock hospital.
Ray says everyone in the van lived at the same address in Hobbs, New Mexico.
The two vehicles erupted in flames after colliding.
Vega is about 35 miles west of Amarillo.
