The appointment of David Mattax as Texas Insurance Commissioner has been confirmed by the Texas Senate, the insurance department reported.

Mattax was appointed to the job by Gov. Greg Abbott on Jan. 21. He was appointed earlier in January by then-Gov. Rick Perry to replace Julia Rathgeber who resigned to become deputy chief of staff for Gov. Abbot.
The Senate voted unanimously to approve Mattax as the state’s top insurance regulator.
Mattax oversees the Texas Department of Insurance, which regulates the insurance industry and provides information and assistance to insurance consumers.
