Ever tried driving across West Texas at 55mph…. I would like to see what counties the accidents are in. My guess is large urban area’s where really the speed limits are about what other large cities have across America. Just my thought
The economy in Texas was slow in 2009-2011. During the 2010-2015 period, record numbers of people have been moving to the state. When normalized for vehicle miles traveled, the death rate in Texas is below what it was in 2007-08, before the recession. That and because of the pervasive use of smart phones on the road, which spiked when they became affordable in 2011, we have higher numbers. The unanswered question is have travel speeds actually increased? In at least one case, they have actually dropped… along I-10 in Beaumont, so the argument that the speed limit is causing this spike is invalid. People drive at speeds they feel safe and comfortable driving regardless of the limit.
Funny, nothing about cell phone use or texting while driving as a factor.

If gas was $3.00 a gallon, we wouldn’t be even having this discussion.
