Doug, the uncertain repair estimate gives the impression that the army corps of engineers does not know what they are doing or how to proceed with this dam failure & repair. It is not comforting at all that our safety and lives are in their hands!
I am a PE that does impoundment inspections/reporting and have never seen anything of this magnitude. It is difficult to successfully repair less severe slides, so I sure don’t envy the engineers and contractor hired to carry out these repairs.
I have two children living in the flood path should the dam be breached. We have discussed what to do if the situation becomes dire, and they also have now bought flood insurance. I haven’t been able to find a copy of the lake’s emergency action plan, which I think should be made publicly available online.
Love the repair estimate, just another zero or 1,000 percent increase. Seems that is where the story should be.

Today I recorded a Denton city water staff person commenting on the news “scare”…
