Funeral services for Texas Insurance Commissioner David Mattax, who passed away on April 13, will begin Thursday, April 20, 2017, the Texas Department of Insurance announced.
Mattax, who had served as insurance commissioner since January 2015, passed away after a battle with cancer. Prior to being appointed as to the insurance commissioner post, Mattax served as deputy attorney general under then Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.
Mattax will lie in state from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, and Friday, April 21, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, at University United Methodist Church. Following the service, Mattax will be buried at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin.
A reception will be held at The Rotunda of the William P. Clements State Office Building, 300 West 15th Street.
