Dear Texas Legislature: you have the 2nd largest coastal insurable values, after only Florida, yet you refuse to pass the burden along to the citizens of the state. The current funding system has been repeatedly proven inadequate and is a detriment to not only the coastal property owners, but also the entire property insurance marketplace in Texas. Get your act together do what must be done: add a property insurance assessment to every new policy written in the state. The time of whining about taxes has passed.
Asking policyholders far from the coast to subsidize coastal policy premiums violates common sense. Those on the coast made the decision to live on the coast. The cost of coverage should reflect that decision.
