Storms that pummeled North Texas overnight are being blamed for stranding motorists in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and for flooding underground parking lots at a Dallas airport.
Dozens of vehicles were submerged in nearly four feet of water in the lower levels of parking garages at Love Field Airport in Dallas, according to various media reports. The Dallas Morning News reported that the water almost reached the tops of some cars.
The flooding is being partially blamed on drainage issues at the airport garages.
The area saw more than three inches of rain overnight, according to the Weather Channel.
In addition to flooding, hail damage has been reported, with hailstones the size of tennis balls being reported in Midland.
The National Weather Service says heavy rainfall and strong to severe thunderstorms in central Texas are raising the chance of flash flooding in central and eastern Texas today as they move slowly to the east and south.
