Texas Mutual Distributes $1.1M in Grants for Workforce Development

Texas Mutual Insurance Co. has distributed $1.1 million in grants to 16 organizations across the state to fund workforce development programs.

“The Texas workforce is one of the strongest in the country, and investments like these grants from Texas Mutual make that possible,” Julian Alvarez III, Texas Workforce Commission Commissioner of Labor, said in a statement. “By providing funds to organizations committed to workforce development and economic expansion, Texas Mutual is ensuring that job seekers across the state will have increased job opportunities and access to critical safety training.”

Texas Mutual completed distribution of the grants in December 2019. The grants will support workforce development initiatives designed to strengthen job-skill training, influence statewide change and empower community collaboration.

The organizations include:

  • Adaptive Construction Solutions in Houston
  • Advance Together, a program of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas (statewide)
  • Bryan Independent School District (ISD), Career & Technical Education Complex
  • Conroe ISD
  • Educate Texas (statewide)
  • El Paso Collaborative for Academic Excellence
  • Laredo College
  • Laredo ISD
  • Lubbock Economic Development Alliance
  • RGV Focus in the Rio Grande Valley
  • SA Works in San Antonio
  • Texans Can Academies in Dallas
  • Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation (statewide)
  • TRIO Electric in Houston
  • The Wilkinson Center in Dallas
  • Workforce Solutions Capital Area in Austin

This $1.1 million distribution is in addition to Texas Mutual’s other workforce development initiatives in 2019 including $1.1 million in college safety grants awarded to 11 colleges, $1.5 million in policyholder safety grants and more.

Austin-based Texas Mutual is a policyholder-owned company, and provides coverage to 43 percent of the state’s workers’ comp market.
