I said to myself back when Executive Orders were used to funnel FEMA money to the border wall, and recently for a brief “enhancement” of $300/week unemployment benefits, which have now ended, that it’s not nice to mess with funds that are needed to help people hurt by Mother Nature’s impacts, especially during hurricane season.

Hurricane Sally is hitting now, followed by Teddy & Vicky still out in the far Atlantic. Paulette might hit the northern US coast.

If there was an agency that should not have been tapped for funds not allocated by Congress, it was FEMA.

FEMA wasn’t meant, and should not, operate as the primary insurance company every time a storm comes ashore. These people made their beds by not preparing in advance. That was their choice. They are not being abandoned, they are misplacing blame. Insurance companies are paying millions in ALE for people who had the proper coverage. You shouldn’t need the federal government to help with a wind event.
