Louisiana Woman Accused of Selling Fake Auto Policies on Facebook Marketplace

March 11, 2021

State police have arrested a Louisiana woman accused of selling fraudulent auto insurance policies. The majority of the victims saw the woman’s advertisement for automobile coverage on Facebook Market Place, according to the Louisiana State Police (LSP).

The LSP’s Insurance Fraud and Auto Theft (IFAT) Field Office said a complaint received from a local insurance agency in June 2020 claimed that 25-year-old Brianna Phillips of Pineville was selling fake policies labeled as being from Safeway Insurance Company of Louisiana.

An LSP investigation discovered Philips sold fraudulent automobile insurance policies to several victims. She then would provide the victims with a fraudulent declaration page and a fraudulent insurance card.

Phillips was arrested on March 9, 2021. She is charged with 10 counts related to: insurance fraud, forgery of certificate of insurance, theft, and advertisements by insurers.

She was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center.

Those who have purchased auto insurance from Phillips are urged to contact the Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud Unit at 318-484-2193.
