The Louisiana Department of Insurance has revised the application process for military members to receive a 25% discount on the liability portion of their auto insurance premium.
Under a bulletin issued this week by Commissioner Tim Temple, eligible service members will only need to submit the application form one time rather than annually.
The discount is available to
- Active-duty military personnel based in Louisiana;
- Military reservists based in Louisiana; and
- Members of the Louisiana Army National Guard or Louisiana Air National Guard.
“This law recognizes their service by helping military members save on auto insurance,” Temple said in a statement. “I made this change with the intent to incentivize more of our service members to take advantage of this significant discount.”
In order to receive the discount, active-duty military personnel and military reservists must provide current military orders showing assignment to a duty station in Louisiana.
Members of the Louisiana Army National Guard or Louisiana Air National Guard must provide a letter from their commander on official unit letterhead verifying membership.
The discount for eligible service members was created in 2004 by the Louisiana Legislature.
