Two Tallahassee Ind. Agencies Merge To Form Area’s Largest

January 9, 2003

Two of Tallahassee, Fla.’s oldest and largest independent insurance agencies, Rogers, Atkins, Gunter & Associates and Vaughn Insurance Agency, announced they merged into one company effective January 1, 2003. The new agency, Rogers Gunter Vaughn Insurance, is now the area’s largest independent insurance agency with over 60 employees in Tallahassee, Tampa and Crawfordville.

“Joining forces enables us to offer our customers an even broader selection of insurance carriers, giving them the benefit of the highest quality coverage available on a cost effective basis,” said Bill Gunter, chairman and CEO of the new company and a former Florida Insurance Commissioner. “By teaming up the two companies, we can pass cost savings on to our clients with an even better product offering of business, personal and professional insurance through many of the nation’s major insurance carriers.”

The new company occupies the former offices at 1117 Thomasville Road. Former staff members moved into their new offices on January 1, 2003 and are now fully operational.

“By joining forces we are able to provide the added services our clients are looking for,” said Kevin Vaughn, president of the new company. “Yet we will remain a family owned operation, with our roots still here in Tallahassee. We’re proud to have been a part of our community’s growth and we’re looking forward to continuing to be the major player in the North Florida insurance arena.”

“Partnering with our long-time competitors is a dream-come-true for our agency,” said Sam Rogers, Jr. “Most other independent agencies in the country have been taken over by out-of-town concerns which bring layers of bureaucracy. We will continue to be locally owned and operated, allowing us to provide our customers with the products they need, with the speed and efficiency only a local company can offer.”

“We are pleased to join the Rogers and Gunter families in our shared commitment in continuing to be a locally owned and operated enterprise,” said Rod Vaughn. “I am personally looking forward to further developing long-term relationships between our clients and our new company.”
