Lakeland, Fla.-based Summit announced the launch of BusinessFirst Insurance Co. BusinessFirst is a Florida-domiciled stock insurance company which will specialize in workers’ compensation insurance for retail, service and light industrial companies in the state of Florida.
Summit will serve as the company’s managing general agent (MGA) and will handle all of the day-to-day operations for the company. BusinessFirst joins a family of companies for which Summit provides MGA and third-party administrative services, including Bridgefield Casualty Insurance Co., Bridgefield Employers Insurance Co., Florida Retail Federation Self Insurers Fund, Kentucky Retail Federation Self Insurers Fund and Louisiana Retailers Mutual Insurance Co.
“BusinessFirst will provide a much needed option for agents and employers in the workers’ compensation market,” says Summit President and CEO Rick Hodges. “We’re confident BusinessFirst will be a viable work comp solution for many Florida businesses.”
Summit programs provide insurance products and services to about 23,000 employers representing more than $550 million in premium throughout the Southeast.
