“Underwriting – The First Line of Defense” is the theme for this year’s Underwriting Conference, sponsored by the Alliance of American Insurers and the American Association of Insurance Services (AAIS). The conference will be held Sept. 14-16 at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel in Orlando, Fla.
In the keynote addresses, Air Force Major General Richard Comer, head of North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, will focus on the military’s role in homeland security, while Richard Coffman, a consultant to the Department of Homeland Security, will discuss what the department is doing to counter terrorism and secure America’s safety.
The development and implementation of the federal Terrorism Risk Insurance Program will be analyzed by a panel of experts, including representatives of the U.S. Treasury Department, GeneralCologne Re, Providence Mutual Fire Insurance Company, the Alliance and AAIS.
Other panels will explore the homeowners insurance market and how companies are attempting to restore profitability in that line of business, and look at the growing problem of identity theft and fraud and how insurers can minimize risk by closely reviewing underwriting standards in that area.
CPCUs attending the conference will earn 15 Continuing Professional Development Credits. Registration information is available at www.allianceai.org.
