We just had our roof done with medeigation 2001 code. Our home is 14 years old and our policy went from 2700 to 1330 a year and that payment is guaranteed for 5 years. Basically it will pay for the cost of the roof. This is on a home with 4450 square feet of roof. They used 30 year shingles and the membrane underneath. We are more than thrilled with St. Johns pricing. As far as a claim , we are in our mid 40’s and have never submitted a claim. Have excellent credit and have heard nothing but good things about this company. They are rated an A company.I have to believe ther is something more to your claim. Or, maybe you didn’t select the right coverages, who knows.

I have St. Johns insurance in Orlando. Just some things for you to know about them. You must pay your whole premium for the whole year up front. They have been trying to cancel my policy every other month for the same reason that has been taken care of months ago. They did come through for a re-roof after the storms.

I recently bought a home in FL and am considering changing to St. Johns because of the quote I received. I am concerned about how you handle claims although I hope to not have any. Why is you other structures coverage and loss of use lower than other companies?

    Hi,
I just bought a house in Florida and would like to purchase St. Johns homeowners insurance but my biggest fear is a major hurricane like Katrina. Would St Johns be able to handle all the claims our would they go bankrupt leaving thousands of people unable to collect on their claims? My decision is between State Farm (a well know national company) and St Johns.

How much Home Owners premium has St. Johns written in Florida and what are the limits on premium to be written? Also, how much P&C premium is written Nationally? What are the Florida reserves for claims? Are the Company reserves outside of Florida available if needed to meet any catastrophic demand? Lastly, will there be any additional ratings provided?

also the Demotech site does state their ratings… http://www.demotech.com/pcratingsdata.aspx?nc=11844
Do not post questions here as I assure you they won\’t be answered.

My Homeowners Insurance Agent just recommended St Johns as an alternative to the current Company that I have been with. The rate quoted appears to be low enough for the same coverage and it is very tempting. However I am concerned with the comments posted and the non response. Is there any positive comments and can any one shed a new light?

I Had my inspection yesterday . It cost me $100. It was a wind inspection.
He checked up in the attic how the roof was attached .

    The inspection saved me money.

I would advise everyone to do it.
I got the insurance and they will be my new company .
I have only heard good things about this company and actually talked to the VP myself. He answered all my questions.
    I’m satisfied.

You all who are asking questions of the company need to realize this is not St. Johns website. Second, if you want to know if they can pay their claims if a disaster hits go research POE insurance and see what happened to an outfit very similar but much larger than this company. They no longer exist! St. John’s is a small regional carrier under-cutting other regional carriers with money received in re-insurance from the state of Florida that doesn’t really exist until a disaster hits. A few investors come up with 20 mil. or so, State gives them 20-30 mil in re-insurance under genius Crist’s socialized insurance program and bam, you have an insurance company. Does that sound like State Farm or even Tower Hill Insurance? Do some research. PS – Demotech rates even the worst companies A…want a quality ratings company go check out A.m. Best. St Johns, Olympus, Royal Palm, Security First, etc etc etc don’t even qualify for a rating. They are all young, unproven, and more than likely wont exist in 10 years.

Ok, I can easily believe that we’re writing to the wrong company. I’ve searched high and low, what’s the real St.John’s web address? I do know they are based in California. I work with a girl that has them, so Tues. I can get the real info if no one here has it.

I am currently going with St. Johns. All the other companies are either raising rates that are unaffordable or are dropping loyal customers. St. Johns is buying re-insurance from the state of Florida. We all have been after the state government to help with insurance rates, and this is it.

I would say to go directly to their Web site and you should be able to find out what you want. I have been satisfied with the business I have done with them.
Get the inspection it may cost you $100 bu it will make your insurance lower because they know that your home is in good condition.

I have insurance with you now. I paid for a company to come to my house to reduce my insurance rate since I have roll down hurricane shutters on all windows.
I was told by Nationwide that I would get a reduced rate. These shutters are rated Dade County approved. Right now I am paying $3547.00 and I have $5,000 deductible. This is more deductible than my last company. I did not get any reduce rate from St. John’s Insurance.
Please advise. Thank you Kathi Randolph

I just moved and bought a new home in FL. last year, I went with St. John’s… I got my new policy and a 40% increase from last year (no claims). The reason…their quotes were below the market average last years and they are increasing it this year (40% in my case).

It’s time to look around for a better rate.

    Thanks for that information.

I had damage to my house from Tropical Storm Fay. THe wind had caused cracks in my stucco and rain got in the cracks, dripped down the dry wall, and came up threw the floors. I had 10 contractors give me reports of how this had happened. St. John’s sent an adjuster out and they denied my claim saying it came in through the foundation. I complained and they sent a guy who works for the 1st guy that came out. WHile at my house the adjuster agreed with my contractor but when i got a call from my insurance company denying my claim again the report said something totally different. I AM DROPPING THEM AND YOU SHOULD TO BECAUSE WHEN YOU NEED THEM THEY WILL NOT COVER YOU!!!!!! THEY ARE LIARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My experience was similar to Jaime Langlitz, only mine affected the roof after T.S. Fay. After 4 adjustors from St. John’s, all of whom agreed with my 4-time suffering Roofer (spend hours with each of them) that the damage was unquestioned, the Company kept denying the claim. When I consulted an attorney, they proposed to settle, then sent this demeaning settlement offer making me out to be some kind of FRAUD. That’s enough. I had been willing to settle for part of the expense because they claimed there was some issue with prior repair. At this point, I’m POed enough to take them to the cleaners on their ratings. Besides the Insurance Commisioner, anyboby recommended a kick-*** attorney on contingency who has challenged St. John’s in the past. Any help welcome.

Finally after calling and pestering I got a check in the mail. It did not cover all of the damage that was done. They would not cover the any of the outside that needed repair due to the fact that they said i should have had the cracks in my stucco repaired as normal maintenace before the storm. I assured them the cracks were not there before but according to the insurance adjusters report they weren’t– like they would know! Also i had water damage to the cabinets in my kitchen which they would also not cover saying there was no evidence the damage was caused by TS Fay. It is ridicilous– so basically they send me enough money to replace my laminate floors. Do i take them to mediation for more money or just be happy with what i’ve got. Also, i am looking for recommedations for a fair insurance provider in the state of FL– any suggestions?

We had a similar experience – except I am taking St. John’s to court. They lied, cheated and refused to work with us following the rupture of a copper pipe in our home. Despite severe flooding and a ruined home, they insulted us further by offering a fraction of the repair costs. It’s been over a year, and I am still fighting.

Request mediation; however, it won’t get you far. Our mediator could not believe our insurance “agent” who insulted us during the process and had to “leave the room” in order to supposedly call his boss for a higher settlement figure ($$$). It was a waste of time. We easily had $75K in damages (along with proof, pictures, and assessments) – and they offered us $9200.00.

    Go to court.
