Former Industry Executive to Lead Ky. Office of Insurance

Martin Koetters of Louisville, a former insurance industry executive with 34 years of experience in the field, has been named executive director of the Kentucky Office of Insurance.

Koetters held several insurance management positions in Louisville before moving to Florida in 1995 where he oversaw sales/marketing and administrative functions for the Boca Raton office of Acordia Inc. and later became chief operating officer for USI Florida, a division of the sixth-largest national insurance broker. He retired in 2002 and moved back to Louisville. In Sept. 2003, Koetters returned to the industry as a senior account executive for Neace Lukens Inc.

“Martin Koetters’ experience and leadership skills position him wonderfully well to tackle the many challenging issues in Kentucky’s insurance market today, ranging from costs to consumers to accountability and responsibility of insurers,” said LaJuana Wilcher, secretary of the Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet (EPPC).

A Vietnam veteran, Koetters received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and economics from Xavier University. He currently is working toward a master’s of business administration degree and holds Charter Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate Risk Management (ARM) designations.

“We look forward to working with Executive Director Koetters as we work to make health insurance more accessible to Kentuckians,” said Dr. James Holsinger Jr., secretary of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

“I am humbled to have been selected by Governor Fletcher to fill this important role in his administration. I look forward to working with Sec. Wilcher and Dr. Holsinger to find ways to ease the burden on Kentucky families while ensuring a healthy, stable insurance market,” Koetters said.

The Office of Insurance is an agency of the EPPC.
