An ongoing investigation in Albany, Ga. has netted nine people, including four city employees, in a scam fraudulently fill out medical insurance claim forms and file them with AFLAC, the insurance provider for both the city of Albany and Dougherty County.
According to a spokesman for the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Department, the perpetrators got caught because they became greedy; at present overpayments of $149,415 have been uncovered.
Sheriff’s office and AFLAC investigators have teamed up to determine how many people were involved in the scam and how much money was claimed.
Albany sanitation worker Tim Hunt and his unemployed wife, Kysheila are believed to be the ring-leaders, while dozens of others are suspected to be involved. The Hunts and seven other perpetrators are now in jail charged with insurance fraud.
