Two companies insuring several rural churches burned in Bibb County and west Alabama are offering rewards that could total more than $77,000, in addition to state and federal rewards totaling $10,000.
Five church fires Feb. 3 in Bibb County have been ruled arsons, and authorities suspect arson in the other four in west Alabama.
Guide One Insurance of Des Moines, Iowa, announced a $15,000 reward for each of the two churches insured by the company – Ashby Baptist and Rehobeth Baptist, both in Bibb County.
Alfa Insurance, which has policies with five of the nine, announced it is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the rash of church fires. Additionally, a $7,500 reward is offered by Alfa’s standard church insurance policy. The company said it could pay as much as $37,500 in rewards from the five policies if convictions are reached in all of the Alfa-insured church cases.
The state and federal Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agency both have offered $5,000 rewards.
