Funeral Services Scheduled for Ron Hanna in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Ron Hanna, 55, manager of the Alabama Insurance Underwriting Association passed away Feb. 24. Hanna was a native of Hattiesburg, Miss. and was a resident of Gulf Shores, Ala.

Hanna joined the Insurance Department soon after George Dale became Commissioner in 1976. During 25 years of service, Hanna wrote special reports, did media relations and during a later assignment, headed Licensing Division. In 2001, when he retired, Hanna was Deputy Commissioner of Insurance.

Soon after Hanna retired the Alabama Insurance Underwriting Association was looking for a manager with insurance experience, and hired Hanna. AIUA manages the Alabama Wind Pool.

“I value the contributions Ron made to the Insurance Commission during his 25 year tenure,” Dale said. “After he joined the Alabama Insurance Underwriting Association, he also did a fantastic job in that capacity.”

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. March 3 with a service at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Gulf Shores, 2200 West First Street, Gulf Shores, Ala. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers donations to the music ministry or building fund be made to the First Baptist Church of Gulf Shores, in memory of Ron Hanna, P.O. Box 394, Gulf Shores, Ala. 36547.
