First Meeting of Fla. Commercial JUA Board Scheduled for Tomorrow

The first meeting of the Board of Governors of the Florida Property and Casualty Joint Underwriting Association (PCJUA) is scheduled for Friday, August 25 in Tallahassee.

Officials also revealed the name sof the memebrs of the JUA board.

The August 25 meeting will be held to discuss the implementation of provisions of the Emergency Rule 69OER06-3 (rule), approved by the governor and Cabinet last week. This rule authorizes the activation of the PCJUA to provide relief to businesses having trouble securing coverage in the midst of this year’s hurricane season.

The board will also name a chair and vice chair.

The meeting will be held 10:00 a.m. at the Larson Building, 200 East Gaines Street, Room 116, Tallahassee.

The appointees to the board include:

Gregory Buckley (Waxhaw, North Carolina) is the Commercial P & C
Underwriting Manager for Liberty Mutual Insurance Group and is
representing the National Association of Independent Insurers.

John Collins (Ft. Lauderdale) is President of Gulf Building Corporation.

Ronnie Duncan (Tarpon Springs) is in commercial real estate development and brokerage as President and CEO of The Duncan Companies.

K. Earl Durden (Panama City) is CEO of Rail Management Corporation.

Susan Hindsman Heard (Orlando) is P & C Underwriting Director of the Florida Branch of CNA, representing an unaffiliated insurer writing coverage on a national basis.

Tom Koval (Sarasota) is Senior Vice President and General Counsel for FCCI Insurance Group, representing the Alliance of American Insurers.

Deon Long, President (Apopka) of the O.D. Long and Associates law firm and specializes in municipal finance issues. He is a member of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law, National Association of Bond Lawyers, and National Association of Securities Professionals.

Mitchell Montgomery (Jacksonville) is President of Montgomery Land
Company.

Michael O’Malley (Washington, New Jersey) is Senior Vice President, State Government Affairs & Mandated Business for Chubb & Son, a division of Federal Insurance Company, and is representing the American Insurance Association.

Raul Rivero (Coral Gables) is President of Insurance Corporate Consultants, Inc.

Anita Setnor-Byer (Plantation) is President and CEO of Setnor-Byer
Insurance and Risk.

Mark Slagle (Ocala) is an Insurance sales representative for Hillcrest
Agency, representing the Florida Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, which is a statewide agents’ association.

Lewis Swezy (Ft. Lauderdale) is President of Centennial Management and in land and real estate development.
