A fast moving fire gutted an apartment building late Tuesday afternoon in Irondale, Ala., leaving dozens of residents homeless.
The blaze destroyed an estimated 20 units at the Enclave complex.
Firefighters from Irondale, Birmingham and Mountain Brook battled the blaze for several hours. Fire units remained at the scene through most of the night, according to Irondale Fire Chief Randy Davis. A firefighter and a resident were treated for minor injuries.
How it started remains under investigation. It was the third major fire at the apartment complex in six years.
