South Carolina public safety officials planned a hurricane evacuation simulation as the state prepares for this year’s hurricane season.
Public Safety spokesman Sid Gaulden said law enforcement personnel and traffic control devices were deployed on Interstate 26, U.S. 501 and U.S. 278 June 4 as if the roads were reversed for a hurricane evacuation.
Gaulden says no lanes were blocked during the simulation, which ran from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Atlantic hurricane season started Sunday and runs through November 30.
Gov. Mark Sanford proclaimed this week as Hurricane Awareness Week.
