Three miners in West Virginia sustained injuries in a scoop accident at a Barbour County mine where an 18-year-old contractor’s apprentice was run over and killed by a scoop in May.
Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training spokeswoman Jama Jarrett says the latest incident at Wolf Run’s Sentinel Mine occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 12.
A spokesman for Wolf Run’s parent company, Scott Depot-based International Coal Group, says a scoop struck the miners as they worked underground.
ICG spokesman Ira Gamm said one miner suffered serious injuries. The others’ injuries were relatively minor.
All three were transported to Morgantown’s Ruby Memorial Hospital. Their conditions weren’t immediately available.
Gamm says the company is cooperating with regulators.
ICG was cited for safety violations in the May fatal accident.
