With Tropical Storm Gustav on deck in the Caribbean, insurance claims from Tropical Storm Fay continue to mount while the storm’s rain producing potential manifests throughout Alabama, Georgia and the Carolinas.
The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation reported the latest claims tallies as of today (Aug. 27) for five of the state’s highest volume insurers:
As of 7:45 a.m. state-backed Citizens Property Insurance Corp. reported a total of 2,730 homeowners’ claims.
State Farm reported 6,680 homeowners’ claims and 1,298 auto claims as of: 9:15 a.m.
Universal Property & Casualty says it received 1,358 homeowners’ claims as of 8:30 a.m. and USAA reports1,966 homeowners’ claims and 240 auto claims as of 8:50 a.m. EDT today.
In Allstate’s first announcement, the insurer reports 1,061 homeowners’ claims, 566 auto claims and 23 commercial claims as of 11:15 a.m. (Aug. 27).
The National Weather Service in Greer, South Carolina said Aug. 26 that Greenville, Oconee, Pickens and Spartanburg counties remain under the flood watch through Aug. 27.
Forecasters say the remnants of Fay could bring four to six inches of rain to much of the area, especially north of Interstate 85.
