Sissonville, West Virginia Volunteer Fire Department officials say they still need to raise about $450,000 to replace a fire station and three fire trucks destroyed in a blaze.
Fire department secretary Tom Miller says a $955,690 insurance settlement is well short of what the department needs to fully recover from the Oct. 1 electrical fire.
The Charleston Gazette reported that the department has been using borrowed fire trucks to run emergency calls out of Charleston Auto, just down the road from the burned-out fire station.
Miller said offers of help have poured in from other fire departments and the public, including a $100,000 pledge from the Kanawha County Commission. He said pledges and donations to date still leave the department about $450,000 short.
