LOL. Don’t hold your breath. These so called tort-reform laws do nothing but benefit the insurance companies with no corresponding benefit to consumers in the form of lower premiums. Apparently these politicians feel that citizens are smart enough to elect them into office, but not smart enouh to make an informed decision over the value of a claim when sitting in a jury deliberation room.
And it’s always the “trial lawyers” who get the blame as if the insurance companies lawyers are incompetent bozos that get taken advantage of at every turn.
It is legislation like this that only hurts the “average joe”. Insurance premiums will NEVER come down without a competitive marketplace and both major parties are firmly in the insurance companies’ (like all big business) pockets (can’t recall 1 democratic representative putting full support behind the Obama Health Care plan).
Does anyone else remember when NO ONE had health insurance? How in the world did anyone live then? By having “reasonable” charges for health care. Until serious REGULATIONS are enacted upon so many types of businesses (thanks for the de-reg Ronnie Raygun), it will continue to be a “screw the public” world we live in.
I am surprised that they put caps in. Tennessee does NOT have a medical malpractice insurance crises at all. In fact of all of the states they have some of the lowest rates in the country. (see http://www.equotemd.com ) Why do this?
