I don’t know if their timing on this crackdown is the best. This could boost unemployment numbers by forcing businesses already financially weakened by the economy to call it quits.

WHEN WILL THERE BE A CRACKDOWN ON EMPLOYEE FRAUD? WHEN WILL THE N C INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION SUPPORT DRUG ENFORCEMENT GUIDELINES FOR EMPLOYEES WHO ABUSE DRUGS WHILE ON THE JOB. WHEN WILL THERE BE CRACKDOWNS BE PLACED ON ATTORNEYS AND CHIROPRACTORS WHO ENCOURAGE FRAUD AMONG EMPLOYEES! EMPLOYERS BUY WC INSURANCE TO TRULY PROTECT THE INJURED EMPLOYEE, WHICH IS A GOOD THING. BUT ABUSE IS RAMPANT WHEN UNEMPLOYMENT RUNS OUT, OR WELFARE CHECKS AREN’T ENOUGH. MANY EMPLOYEES NOW KNOW HOW TO WORK THIS SYSTEM.

What a joke. The statute says the IC is responsible for collecting all coverage information, ensuring all workers are protected and all employers comply. The IC turns around and designates the guys that set work comp rates to collect the compliance data for thembecause they say it is way to hard to receive the data collected for them.

The IC is exposed by the Raleigh News & Observer for not having a clue as to how many policies exist versus how many policies there should be!

So the same guys that set prices AND collect compliance data for the State turn around and offer to help if the state will declare compliance data confidential The folks that collect the data for the state don’t like when the state lets everyone see who has coverage and who doesn’t because it increases competition for the honest employers business and drives rates down.

What an obvious and massive conflict of interest… set the rates and limit competition for honest employers

This is a long standing problem where honest employers are playing on an uneven playing field with others not following the law. We also all bear the risk of unpaid medical expenses that get written off or paid by Medicaid. I hope this law moves the ball forward.

Suggest that other media recreate the N&O series for their own jurisdiction before ability to do so is taken away in other places.
