Calling for more study is not ignoring the work already done. The same scientists that convinced the legislature to not allow bulkheads, rip rap, jetties and other methods of slowing erostion are the same ones that made this “study.” They are academics that lean to the left politically and are responsible for preventing NC from using its beaches and preserving them for the future. Ironically they are paid via govenment grants and university salaries,in other words, they are paid by the taxpayers of this state.

This is why NFIP will never be solvent. If you develop in a flood zone you will get flooded.

““What we have done is ask them to use a blend of models, to use historical data, to use some real science that we can all trust when we start making laws here in North Carolina,” said the bill’s sponsor, Republican Rep. Pat McElraft of Carteret County.”

Um, so the scientific study was not REAL science? And you only want to use “some” real science…. so because some group of developers told you to not listen to scientists, you’re not going to listen to the scientists that already studied this. Effin morons.

NC Lawmakers base Laws on Facts, not Fiction, or Comedy.
CRC’s Scientists have declined to answer questions on their Science Report since Feb,2011. Why?
One CRC Scientist said, in effect, that it was better to be fast and cheap,, than accurate.
NC Lawmakers disagreed. They want to be accurate.

Our actuarials are already building pricing models and limits for coastal exposures. These guys use REAL science and already are building out models based on what they believe will be happening in the near future (and these guys lean about as right as you can). We need to take the politics out of this – it’s funny how one prior gentleman made the comment, they are academics that “lean to the left.” What has that got to do with anything? If a NASA scientist “leans to the left,” does that mean the rocket won’t get quite as high?
First step is making the Insurance Commissioner an appointed positiion – not an elected position.

“This bill is basically like saying to your doctor, `Don’t do any tests on me, and certainly if you’re going to do tests and you find something wrong don’t tell me for four years because I don’t want to do anything about it,”’ said Democrat Rep. Deborah Ross of Wake County.

She unsuccessfully urged House members to oppose the legislation.

“By putting our heads in the sand, literally, for four years we’re not helping property owners we’re hurting them,” Ross said. “We’re not giving them information they might need to protect their property, to protect their investment.”

Sounds like the way a good Republican should think and act, just stick your head in the sand and wait until the coastal waters wash over your butt and everyones real estate…..Wow, just wow.
