The Mississippi Insurance Department announced that certain property/casualty rate and form filings are now available online for public review through a new search tool implemented by the department.
The department said the new online search tool reflects an effort by the state’s regulators to make the activities of the Mississippi Insurance Department more transparent.
The Mississippi Insurance Department said the SERFF Filing Access project has been under development by the department and National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) since early 2014, with additional functionality to be released later in the year. The department said Mississippi is joining a number of other states that have or will soon be implementing the service.
“An important benefit of this tool is that it offers more efficient access to rate and form filing
information as more states make it available,” Mississippi Commissioner of Insurance Mike Chaney said in a statement.
“With this information now accessible through the internet, it greatly increases the transparency of our office and will cut down on Freedom of Information requests we receive and have to devote man-hours processing,” said Chaney. “Thus, our staff will have additional time to focus their experience and abilities on other regulatory issues. And, there will be no charge to consumers to use this tool.”
Those that will find the new tool of the greatest benefit will be companies and agents looking to make rate comparisons when possibly preparing their own rate filings, the department said.
A link to the new SERFF Filing Access is now active on the Mississippi Insurance Department website at www.mid.ms.gov.
