The Georgia Insurance Commissioner said consumers have reported multimillion dollar insured losses from a storm that included several tornadoes.
Commissioner Ralph Hudgens said that reported damage from last week’s storm is estimated to be roughly $6 million.
Hudgens said consumers should contact their insurance agents immediately if their homes or cars sustained damage. Hudgens said hail damage to vehicles is typically covered by the comprehensive or collision portion of car insurance policies.
Hudgens said consumers should cover damaged areas of their homes with tarp or plywood to protect property from further damage.
Consumers can call a helpline at 1-800-656-2298 with questions about filing claims.
