    A message to all prohibitionists:

You need to stop protecting me from myself or you’ll guarantee your own destruction.

We drink alcohol, we eat in excess, we smoke tobacco, we drive motorcycles, do crazy stuff on skateboards, ski down impossible slopes, summersault over walls, parachute off buildings, and climb sheer rock-faces. So what business is it of yours if I should chose to smoke crack-cocaine or inject heroin directly into my own eyeballs? By all means, make me pay for the damage I may cause. But turning our society into one huge gulag, not only protects the income and power of organized criminals, it also threatens and corrupts every last one of our cherished institutions, and with it your own future.

During alcohol prohibition in the USA (1919-1933), all profits went to enrich thugs and criminals. Young men died every day on inner-city streets while battling over turf. A fortune was wasted on enforcement that could have been spent far more wisely. On top of the budget-busting prosecution and incarceration costs, billions in taxes were lost. Finally, the economy collapsed –Crash of 1929. Four years later, the America Federal Government had no choice but to legally regulate Alcohol again. Sound familiar?

So for your own sake: stop protecting me from myself!

Very thoughtful and articulate argument. If we legalize it for medical use, regulate it and have it safely and consistantly grown then have doctors write actual prescriptions and then dispense the stuff through regular drug stores, then I’d be in favor of it as I believe that there are medical benefits for some people.
And I’m open to hearing arguments as to how it should be legalized for recreational use, but to me, the biggest reason is that it would help our border problem more than anything else and would also help stabilize our neighboring countries south of the border.

Until marijuana is completely legal for consumption, our government is forcing a hypocrisy of our constitution. They are denying us our rights to pursue happiness in many ways. They are denying us a right to our own bodies.
If the effects of marijuana weren’t so miniscule I’d recant my former statements. However, marijuana has been found medically useful by our government and thus furthers the governments hypocrisy by labeling it a schedule 1 substance.
Stop the insanity, legalize it for recreational use.Not only because it has less of a death rate than aspirin, but to show citizens that their government has faith the majority can make informed and responsible decisions.
