Investigators say they are close to finding the person or persons responsible for setting at least seven Birmingham homes on fire over the past few months.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Chief C.W. Mardis tells WBMA-TV someone has started between seven and eight fires in the Enon Ridge and Fountain Heights communities.
Mardis says he and the Birmingham Police Department have been working on leads for seven months and hope to close the cases soon.
Many of the homes ruined by fire still exist in Enon Ridge. District 9 Councilman Marcus Lundy says he and several community organizers have asked Mayor William Bell multiple times to have the houses torn down.
