A Union, S.C., woman is accused of setting fire to her mobile home with her two cats still inside.
The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reports the Union County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 28-year-old April Lynn Hudson May 21. Deputies say Hudson admitted to setting fire to her home May 19, saying she had renter’s insurance and was struggling financially.
Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Bailey said Hudson already had filed a claim with State Farm before she was arrested. Bailey said Hudson intentionally left her cats inside the home, and one cat managed to escape while the other died in the fire.
An incident report from the Sheriff’s Office states that the fire appeared to have started in a trashcan in the master bedroom.
It is unclear if Hudson has a lawyer.
