Alabama Man Steals 39 Patient Identities, Buys 14 Cars

Police say an Irondale, Ala., man stole the identities of dozens of patients at a Birmingham doctor’s office and used their credit to buy 14 automobiles worth an estimated half million dollars.

Multiple news outlets report 20-year-old Charles Cheeks was arrested in Georgia after a high-speed chase over the weekend. Authorities say Cheeks bought cars from across the country using stolen identities and had the vehicles delivered to his house. Of the 41 confirmed victims, 39 of them were former patients of a physician who once worked at Trinity Medical Center. Four of the cars were recovered in Birmingham.

Authorities having been searching for Cheeks for days. He was captured by the Georgia State Patrol in Thomas County.

He is being held in the Thomas County Jail without bond.
