Why would two Canadian women choose an U.S. based company to get their future child? Are there no Sperm banks in Canada? Could it be for “healthcare” reasons?
Personally, I agree that the donod was misrepresented and there should be recourse. A trust should be set up if, and only if, there is a need for mental health care. If the kid turns out normal, there should be no compensation. Of course, turning our “normal” is a relative term. They could play a significant role in the child’s behavior, notwithstanding a schizophrenic diagnosis.
Although, the donor could still have been smart, healthy (physically) and mature, even though he was schizophrenic, dropped out of college and had been arrested for burglary.
I think the donor should sue the company for releasing his name and information.
integrity, don’t you think this has gone a bit too far? There is no reliable way to determine whether a child will have the same tendencies as the sperm donor father. It is just another argument of Heredity vs Environment. I tend to go with environment as the major reason why a child develops as it does. Bring the kid up right, teach it right from wrong, use discipline when needed and most kids grow up to be good citizens.
You do realize schizophrenia has a significant hereditary component, right? A schizophrenic child raised by the best parents (which is a great thing) will still be schizophrenic. Your soapbox is out of place here.
Oh, well. They took their shot.
Wonder what kind of interest you get at a sperm bank.
Do they advertise to donors asking for those who are “Hard Up for Cash”?
Blood Donors often sell their blood to blood banks for needed cash.
Why isn’t Planned Parenthood prosecuted for cutting up and selling baby parts? We know they are the biggest abortion provider in the country.
