A Kentucky lawmaker is the new president of the National Conference of Insurance Legislators.
Rep. Steve Riggs of Louisville began his yearlong tenure this month during the group’s annual meeting. He has previously been the group’s vice president, secretary, treasurer and committee chairman.
Riggs said in a news release that the organization has led in writing model legislation and helping it get approved by states.

He says the work ranges from better protections for consumers after natural disasters to providing support for the “sharing” economy that includes businesses such as Airbnb and Uber.
Riggs is vice chairman of the Kentucky House Banking and Insurance Committee and chairman of the chamber’s Local Government Committee. He works as an insurance broker in Louisville.
