I hate to say this, but security in general is needed at the Jacksonville Landing. For years the venue has been plagued with violent crimes. It’s sad to see such a beautiful place ruined by all of the crime that takes place there. I don’t even bother going there anymore for anything.
I do not understand why the city didn’t put more security there for the event. Any other time the Landing hosts an event, there is security and law enforcement everywhere. It doesn’t seem to discourage the criminals much, but at least the public knows they are there, the presence is real, and most can have some sense of security.
Additionally, since there have been prior threats made at other venues hosting this event, why didn’t the event organizers demand that security be present?
The ambulance chasing attorneys have already filed lawsuits for negligence (security) and I can’t help but wonder how this will all unfold. The city is in the process of evicting the management company who operates the Jacksonville Landing. The restaurant where this all unfolded has been shut down by the fire marshal for illegally expanding the space without a permit and lack of security exits. This is going to be a mess.
Our hearts are broken here in Jacksonville over this senseless, tragic event. Thoughts and prayers to all of those who it has adversely affected.
“Why didnt the event organizers demand that security be present?”
The same reason as everyone else – no one wanted to pay the bill. the “It won’t happen here/won’t happen to us” attitude mixed with the additional cost to hire trained security.
Gamers live in an alternate universe and do little that is productive in society. Gaming is their universe. The guy loses and then his world came crashing down and he couldn’t handle it. Mental midget.
Gamers make up over 50% of the population, so you need to do your research before you talk (seems to be a common thread among your posts that you don’t like information). In any case, Gamers are fantastic – they have experience working on teams, they can problem solve, and they get excited about new situations. Do you want to tell me that 50% of our population is useless, hanging out in their parents’ basements eating hot pockets? No. Gamers make up a great force in the economy and workforce, and loving video games shouldn’t be something to hide or be looked down on for.

It’s upsetting, but that’s the simple answer.

Dust,
It’s his only strategy when he can’t blame the shooters ethnicity.
I’ll bet some gamers would make good air traffic controllers or military drone pilots.
Surgeons play video games to improve their skill set too!
