Garateix Promoted to CEO of Heritage Insurance as Lucas Steps Down

Heritage Insurance Holdings, Inc., a super-regional property and casualty insurance holding company, has announced Ernie Garateix, the company’s chief operating officer, has been promoted to chief executive officer and will join the board of directors, effective Nov. 30, 2020.

Bruce Lucas, Heritage’s co-founder, chairman and CEO, will retire effective Nov. 30, 2020 and will remain with the company as an executive consultant through 2021.

According to Lucas, Garateix has been with the company since its inception in 2012. Garateix said he will work to continue expanding Heritage’s footprint as a super-regional carrier.

During his tenure at Heritage, Garateix has also served as chief operating officer and executive vice president. Prior to joining Heritage, Garateix served as an executive at American Integrity Insurance Group, a coastal homeowners insurer.

Richard Widdicombe, Heritage’s co-founder, will continue to serve as president of the company and has also been named chairman of the board of directors.

Prior to joining Heritage as President in 2012, he previously served as president of three Florida Insurance carriers: Federated National Insurance Company, American Vehicle Insurance Company, and People’s Trust Insurance Co.
