Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced that Ricky Bell, 57, was killed in a Montgomery County fire around 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11.
Commissioner King’s Fire Investigations Unit arrived on scene around 5:00 p.m. to find the 22-year-old mobile home on Henry Lee Brown Street in Mount Vernon heavily damaged. The investigator determined the fire originated in a bedroom occupied by the victim.
“The deceased was found in a hallway near the rear door of the home,” said Commissioner King. “We have determined the preliminary cause of this tragic accident to be indoor smoking igniting bedding material.”
