If you can ever get politics out of this issue, it is simple — development or property ownership in coastal areas or flood plains need to pony up the cost to protect their property. Where you build or live is a choice, not a requirement. Waterfront living or views must come with the appropriate cost.

Municipalities or cities need to ensure they are maintaining infrastructure or development in line with natural hazards — and not allocate monies to pet causes or useless initiatives that do not serve the public good. The picture is a great example from a “woke” city that is poorly managed and thinks taxpayer/government money will never run out — so why worry about how it is spent or allocated.
