A central Florida man has been charged with shooting at and throwing Molotov cocktails into an insurance agency office in Lake Wales last spring.
Lake Wales Police said Jason Roberts was tracked down last week in Jasper, Georgia, after surveillance footage showed a Toyota car in the vicinity of the Univista Insurance business before the incident. The vehicle belonged to a lab testing company for which Roberts was a courier at the time, police noted.
It turns out that Roberts is the brother of a woman who owns a competing insurance agency just a few doors down in the same shopping strip as Univista, the police department said in a bulletin last week. A police official said the competing agency owner was reportedly unhappy about Univista moving into the shopping center, but she has not been charged, according to news reports.
The damaged Univista Insurance agency on State Road 60 is managed by German Portillo, a licensed property/casualty agent appointed with six carriers, the Florida Department of Financial Services agent verification page shows.
Portillo told Fox 13 TV news that the incident has scared away clients but that he wants to forgive the suspect.
