The West Virginia Office of the Insurance Commissioner is aking for input on what coverages and classes should be on the surplus lines export list.
In keeping with state law, agents and brokers hoping to place types of coverage that are not on the export list must undertake a diligent search for available coverage in the primary market. But Insurance coverages and classes included on the export list may be placed with surplus lines insurers without completing a search of admitted carriers, the office explained in a bulletin.
The list is subject to revision annually by the commissioner’s office.
Comments about adding or removing a risk or coverage to the export list can be sent via email to Greg Elam, associate general counsel for the office, at Greg.A.Elam@wv.gov. Comments should be submitted by 5 p.m. on Sept. 12. Comments should provide evidence showing why there is or is not adequate coverage available in the admitted market.
