People Moves: Causey Names Myers New Deputy Chief at NCDOI

North Carolina’s insurance commissioner has named Chuck Myers to be chief deputy commissioner Oct. 1, succeeding Jackie Obusek.

For the past three years, Myers has been deputy commissioner for the Louisiana Department of Insurance, over property and casualty insurance. There, he chaired the Louisiana Auto Insurance Plan, which provides car insurance to high-risk drivers who cannot buy coverage through the marketplace. Myers also helped restructure the Louisiana Fortified Homes Program and led the Title Insurance Working Group at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, NC Commissioner Causey said in a bulletin.

Myers will be an asset to the NC Department of Insurance, Causey said. “His impressive insurance, accounting, law enforcement and leadership experience will make the transition of losing Jackie much smoother,” Causey said.

Myers is a former insurance agent who also once worked in insurance regulation and enforcement positions in Virginia. He managed the Real Estate Settlement Agents Investigations Section of the Virginia Bureau of Insurance and investigated a case that received the Virginia State Police Fraud Fighters Award.

He holds a master’s degree in risk management and insurance from Florida State University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Central Florida.
