AB 2639 (Calderon) will be heard on May 10. The bill was originally scheduled for hearing on April 12, but was pulled from the calendar after last-minute opposition from the California Department of Insurance (CDI) and the trial lawyer’s lobby.
The American Agents Alliance and the Independent Broker Network support AB 2639. The key purpose of the bill, sponsored by Mercury Insurance, is to provide a clear definition of “broker” for both the CDI and the industry.
If you would like to attest that the concept of “broker” is protected by provisions in AB 2639, the American Agents Alliance urges you to call and/or write the members of the Assembly Insurance Committee.
Correspondence to all Assembly Members can be sent to the State Capitol, P.O. Box 942849, Sacramento, CA 94249-0001. Letters and calls need to be received prior to May 10. For a complete list of the Assembly Insurance Committee (including phone numbers, fax numbers and e-mail addresses), visit http://www.assembly.ca.gov/acs/new
