California-based Century-National Insurance joined forces with Guardian Angel Holdings Inc., creator and marketer of the Guardian Angel One-Step Alcohol Testâ„¢, to reduce the risk of alcohol-related accidents and deaths. The saliva-based test, packaged in casing the size and shape of a card for easy portability, provides a fast and precise estimate of blood alcohol concentration (BAC). If a user’s BAC is approximately 0.04 percent or higher, the test strip will change color two minutes after being inserted and removed from the mouth.
Century-National will be distributing 20,000 test cards free of charge to existing and potential customers in California. Studies have shown that in 1998, alcohol was a factor in 38 percent of driver fatalities in that state.
