Former Democratic Assemblyman and Federal Prosecutor Tom Umberg announced the formation of a campaign committee for California State Insurance Commissioner.
Umberg represented Orange County in the Assembly from 1990 to 1994; was the Democratic nominee for Attorney General in 1994; directed the Clinton/Gore reelection efforts in California in 1996; and served in the Clinton White House.
Projecting to have well over a million dollars in his campaign treasury by the June 30 campaign finance reporting deadline, Umberg pledged to take no money from insurance interests.
Umberg announced that Mike Monasmith will serve as his campaign manager. In addition, Kimberly Ray will serve as finance director, and John Henna as treasurer, and Nate Tamarin as political director. Umber named Richie Ross as his political consultant.
