Nev. Construction Liability Task Force Formed

September 17, 2002

Nevada Insurance Commissioner Alice Molasky-Arman announced the formation of the Construction Liability Task Force. Molasky-Arman has charged the task force to investigate the genesis of the construction liability problems, which have led to a marked increase in litigation and compromise the availability and affordability of construction liability insurance in Nevada.

The Task Force was created at the request of Governor Kenny Guinn, who directed Molasky-Arman to further explore the problems facing the construction industry, in relationship to the liability insurance marketplace in Nevada, and to advise him with periodic progress reports.

“Once the background has been fully investigated and understood, I expect the Task Force to present valuable recommendations that will lead to long-term solutions to problems which threaten the viability of Nevada’s construction industry,” Molasky-Arman said.

The Task Force is comprised of members who represent the interests of the major stakeholders.

Members who have agreed to volunteer their time to serve on the Task Force include Steve Hill, representing the Coalition for Fairness in Construction, an organization of many construction trade organizations; Joyce Smith, representing subcontractors; Matthew Sharp, representing the Nevada Trial Lawyers Association; Kay Lockhart, representing the Nevada Independent Insurance Agents; Mark Sektnan, representing the American Insurance Association; and Glen Sheard, general public, who also serves as a member on the Commissioner’s Property Casualty Advisory Committee.

The first meeting of the Task Force is scheduled for Sept. 19, in Carson City at the Department of Business and Industry Hearing Room.
