Illegal aliens fill our jails and prisons. Do you think insurance is something illegal aliens care about? Me neither.

Be careful – your point is well taken, but just like EVERYTHING else … they\’ll plead ignorance, lack of comprehension of the English language and if all else fails – they\’ll accuse everyone of being racists !!!! I FOR ONE AM SICK TO DEATH OF THESE PEOPLE !!!! People who break the laws should be punished and if they are found to be illegal, they should be deported IMMEDIATELY – no matter where they come from !!!!

The issue is not illegal aliens or even hispanics but all of the people who ignore the laws and drive uninsured. The so called \”new law\” is simply one that attempts to narrow the loop hole that so many people choose to ignore the law requiring insurance. These folks should be insured regardless of this new registration hiccup.. while hispanics probably do make up a large segment of this population-I have ran into plenty of other ethnicities including many ignorant caucasians that also ignore the law.

I think this change in the law is long overdue. Already, responsible drivers who buy and maintain coverage are having to pick up the tab for all the uninsured dumbasses driving around- i.e. Uninsured Motorist coverage is pretty standard on most auto policies.

Regardless of legal status, hopefully the uninsured hispanic community will start to wake up since 32% is a significant amount. I think anyone driving uninsured is selfish, dumb and clearly putting the burden on responsible drivers to buy UM coverage since these drivers fail to buy insurance. IF YOU CAN\’T AFFORD CAR INSURANCE- TAKE THE BUS!!!

This article did not mention anything about illegals, it mentioned something about Hispanics and that in itself is wrong. Thus, bringing up illegals is not the point (rest asured, I do not tolerate illegal immigration, but this article had nothing to do with it). The left once again wants to insult the intelligence of minorities. First they say minorities are not capable of maintaining good credit and now they are saying that the are unaware of the law. In the past, they said that they are unable to acheive the same test scores as caucasians and thus a need for affirmative action. Please cut this crap and stop this race game. Wether it be this article or any other article that try to pretend it cares about Hispanices, yet constantly insults them.

I\’m surprised nobody has complained about the article title: Hispanics? Nah, they\’re Latinos now. I\’m a white person and I get offended easily and am always ticked when referred to as a caucasian. I\’m actually a native American (think about it). To the subject at hand, you know the next step in the evolution of this story is John Garamendi insisting on spending your tax dollars to front an expensive program to make sure all Latinos–especially the illegals–are insured. U.S. citizens pay for everything else–doctors, medicine, schooling–so why not buy their insurance, too?

Special Note to the Insurance Journal:
Cut this racism crap. Most of us in the industry is tired of this nonsense. Most of use run race nuatral agencies, we don\’t waste our time trying to figure out what race someone is as this is irrelivent. People of all races are uninsured. This is America, if someone can figure out how to get a job, they can figure out how to get insurance. We don\’t read your urinal because we want to know the latest manufactere racism news.

I don\’t think the article is racist but I think it shows a higher tendency of \”Hispanics\” driving uninsured. I live here in San Diego so I know there are all kinds of uninsured motorists around here. I\’m sure the illegals who don\’t have licenses to even drive are sure not going to find a insurer to cover them but this is a reason why they shouldn\’t be driving. This problem won\’t be solved unless there is a more serious consequence- i.e. deportation, which, I would support.

I would like to add I don\’t think Uninsured Motorists are limited to Hispanics at all- such drivers span all races but I can see why Hispanics are the majority.

My advice- AVOID THEM ON THE ROAD!

Thanks for the great comment Sam. I agree with you 100%. We all need to focus on the main issue, UM Requirements. Legislature should\’ve implemented this law a long time ago with higher fines and possibly seize the vehicle.

I thought the article was about hispanics not understanding they need uninsured motorist coverage; shouldn\’t the title read \”Insurance requirements causing uninsured Hispanics to scramble for coverage\”????

Interesting to see all the comments. Agreed it should be about uninsured MOTORISTS, not picking out a particular segment of the population. Seems there is an irony in the article…suspend their registration, but let them drive away after getting a citation? Hmmm. Enforcement, but no follow up?? Another Hmmm.

Unbelievably misleading and racist. Since close to 32% of the people in the state are of Latino descent dosen\’t it make sense that a comparable percentage would be uninsured? This basically indicates the Latino\’s in the state are just like the rest of the people in California.

This article wants us to feel sorry for people of a certain race and to foot the insurance bill for that race. What else is new. I refuse to foot anyone\’s bill regardless of their race. If Insurance Journal seems to have become an activist insurance magazine as of late and not an Insurance Trade Publication. If they keep up with this nonsense, I am going to cancel my subscription. Enough is enough, we have many publicans, Rough Notes, Agent & Broker and many other local magazines.

We should not have to carry insurance to cover other people. Insurance in California should be set up so that if you want coverage, you buy coverage to cover your injuries and your vehicle. If someone has an accident without insurance (at fault or not)…then too &$#@ bad. I am amazed we are paying to cover other peoples injuries…
