Encino, Calif.-based Nas Insurance Services has a new medefense plus endorsement that can be added to miscellaneous errors and omissions insurance.
The endorsement provides coverage for defense costs, civil fines and penalties for HIPAA and billing errors proceedings. In addition, the definition of billing error proceedings includes audits/investigations/proceedings instituted by a government health payer (Medicare/Medicaid) or resulting from voluntary self-disclosure. There is a payment for shadow audits and a waiver of co-insurance if panel attorney is selected.
Coverage is available up to $2 million combined limits with E&O available.
The acceptable classes include medical billers and coders, practice management and healthcare consultants.
