The Montana Captive Insurance Association Inc. appointed Steve Matthews as captive insurance coordinator for the Montana State Auditor’s (SAO) office. Matthews will also retain his duties as the SAO’s chief financial examiner for both captive and traditional insurers.”
Prior to coming to Montana, Matthews was the manager of Regulatory Oversight for the South Carolina captive regulatory staff and directly contributed to the successful launch of that domicile.
The SAO reports that it plans to bring in one additional analyst/examiner in the near future, which will enable to department to continue to process applications in a timely manner and keep the costs of exams down by completing them in-house. Montana is one of the fastest growing domestic domiciles. The state currently has 30 captives and RRGs domiciled in the state and is looking to add more.
John Huth, the SAO’s previous captive insurance coordinator has accepted another position within the state’s Transportation Department.
